I once stumbled upon 3 of my colleagues (1 engineer, one soon to be engineer and one asphalt paving technician) trying to replicate Perpetual electricity from a lighter hoax. I stood there for a while dumbfounded, then casually asked if the knew if that was bullshit. Their response was along the lines - ''Well, you never know''. A lorry driver who happened to be there also seemed to be enjoying the sight of my colleagues trying to circumvent the laws of physics. I left after a while when they had failed and decided to go to the shop to search for a electrical outlet splitter and lighter more akin to that in the video.
When I returned after an hour or so they were still at it . They grudgingly accepted my attempts at explaining various reasons why that would never work and many ways how that video could have been faked, yet they didn't seem that convinced. You gotta admire their perseverance if nothing else.
